Socialism—Who’d a Thunk It?

Well, now I’m really getting worried.  And angry.  This has got to stop.  Bailouts now are happening at the speed of light.  Any company in trouble, just head on over to the big government ATM.

“‘Emergencies’ have always been the pretext on which the safeguards of individual liberty have been eroded.”–Friedrich Hayek

Friedrich Hayek, an Austrian-British economist and political philosopher, was known for his defense of free-market capitalism against socialist and collectivist thinking during the mid-20th century.  He left Austria to study and then chose not to return when Austria was taken over by the Nazis.  A wise and learned person, his words are especially meaningful today.

All these bailouts are in response to “emergencies”.  Just has to be done!  No other choice!!  If we don’t do this, we’ll all….!!!!!”…….

We’ll all what?  Yes, the economy is in big trouble.  But what our government is doing to try to “fix” it, is only going to delay the recovery of our economy.  What’s worse, it is a GIANT step on our seemingly unstoppable path toward socialism.

Here’s another quote that we should all memorize.  I think it’s so important, I’ve added it to my sidebar.

“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism.  But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

This is scary stuff, people.  We have got to stay aware of what’s going on, we have to pay attention to what our elected representatives are doing, we have to call them and tell them what we think.  We have to help inform our misguided, underinformed, and misinformed fellow citizens whenever we can, in whatever way we can.

We cannot remain passive, and just “hope” that America won’t become a socialist democracy.  We can’t think that “it couldn’t happen”.  We can’t think that.

A very good article about the latest bailout of Citicorp, with links to other stories, is at Michelle Malkin’s excellent blog.  Please read up on it.

Information is power.  Let’s focus on getting all the “power” we can.

  1. Wow, pup, where did you get that second quote? Did Hayek say that too? I think I want to put that in my sidebar too. Good article. The only people in this country that will pay attention are the responsible ones, the ones that don’t want government to wipe their behinds. Thanks for writing about this.
Oh, I see…you already added it and who it’s by. Thanks for that.

  2. Hey Kathy, thanks for the comment. That is a very scary quote by Thomas, and if I were a millionaire, I’d put it on billboards all across the country. Yes, please do put it in your sidebar too, if you like. It doesn’t belong to me, and the more people who read it, the better.

    Thanks again.

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” -Edmund Burke

Let each of us do what we can with what we have.

Exercise those First Amendment rights (while we still can). Remember that your Representatives work for you. Encourage your friends and family to be in contact with their Reps, and let them know that Conservative values live in our hearts.

Keep fighting the good fight. Excellent Post.

  4. Thank you Adam, for the visit and the comment. I love that quote by Burke; it is one of my favorites. Because it is so apt.

I have my senators’ and representatives’ phone numbers in my cell phone, and I call them, fairly often. I tell all my family and friends to do the same, that it really does not take any time at all, and they will then know that they at least “did” something.

Again, I thank you for reading and commenting. We will many of us continue to fight the good fight, and I’m happy to fight alongside you.

  5. “there is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism- by vote it is merely the difference between murder and suicide”
    Ayn Rand

What is the source of the second quote above regarding America not knowingly adopting socialism?

  6. Sorry I didn’t make that very clear in my post; I said that I had added it to my sidebar, where I have Norman Thomas, who was the Socialist Party of America’s presidential candidate 6 times between 1928-1948, credited. But I should have noted his name in the post itself. Got carried away, I guess.

    Thanks for visiting.

  7. Great post. Hopefully what is going on will fire up the right like the left has been fired up over the last eight years. I know I never would have started a blog without feeling like every one of us has a responsibility and an opportunity to spread truth, as opposed to the lies that invoke strong emotional responses like those on the left.

I’ll keep up over here. Good stuff!

  8. Thanks, c-lawstudent, for commenting, and for visiting. I feel just like you, and that is why I started this blog. I don’t know of another way right now to “participate” in the process of spreading the truth.

We’ll all fight this fight together, and there is certainly strength in numbers.

Thanks again. I’ll be visiting your blog too.

  9. Amen…and it is not getting better….shameful.

  10. No, it’s not getting any better. And I suspect it won’t, until there’s a revival of self-reliance and personal accountability in this country. Thanks for reading, and for commenting. Please do anytime!
